My grandpa Stull died the year I got married. But the three remaining grandparents became great grandparents with the birth of my children (although grandma Stull already had great grandchildren). My dad's parents lived in Michigan, in Detroit and then in Auburn Heights. I believe grandpa worked in the trucking industry as some kind of clerk. My grandma as far as I know didn't have an outside job. I remember their house in Detroit (I was a child then) It was big and white and everything was in place, it had a very distinct aroma and the gardens were beautiful, Grandma loved to work in the garden. I remember they had the first white Christmas tree I had ever seen, but being a child I thought it was kind of strange that there was a train and other ornaments under it instead of presents. They had a really awesome basement I remember having one of my birthday parties in it and I know the family played card games down there. I remember when ever we went there it was considered an outing, for one thing even though we lived in Michigan at the time it was still a bit of a drive. But also because we didn't go there very often and if we did it was usually for some kind of event. I know my dad's brother (Uncle Bill) was a bachelor for a long time and he had a bedroom down the hall. Also when we moved to Ontario and they came for a visit it was an all day thing. I don't ever remember seeing grandma in slacks, whenever I saw her she was wearing a house dress, but she never looked frumpy she always looked pretty.
It's interesting how they met. My grandma was born in Manitoba, Canada and my grandpa in Pennsylvania, US. They both had step-parents, who happened to be brother & sister. Anyway my grandma's stepmother wanted to go visit her brother in Indiana (where the family was now living) so they made the trek from Canada to the US and as they say the rest is history. They were married in Belleville, Ontario but lived in the US, I believe they settled in Indiana though not a 100% sure. They had 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls they were married for 50 years, grandpa died a few months before their 51st anniversary. Both of their son's were in the US military - dad was in the army and Uncle Bill was in the air force.
It's kinda of funny how my dad referred to his parents - grandma was called Mother and grandpa was called Pop.
Grandpa - he would of been a good candidate for "What Not To Wear"
